Umbwe route is a fairly steep route and generally recommended for the more experienced trekker. It consists of some scrambling up rock and can be fairly demanding. Ice axes and crampons are needed during some months.

Day 1 You arrive at AMEG LODGE for overnight.
Day 2 Breakfast. Transfer from the Lodge to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Umbwe. From here you trek a narrow ridge between Lonzo and Umbwe rivers to reach Bivouac No. 1 (also called Forest Camp) at 2,800m. Stay overnight at Bivouac No. 1 Camp.
Day 3 Leaving the forest, the path continues to follow the ridge, passing through heather and open moorlands to reach Barranco Camp (3,900 m). Overnight stay at Barranco Camp.
Day 4 The path climbs steeply out of Barranco Valley, crosses the Karanga Valley and turns north to reach Barafu Camp (4,600m). Overnight stay at Barafu Camp.
Day 5 A long day and an early start to reach the crater rim at Stella Point in time for sunrise. Then continue on to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Descend to Barranco and down on to Mweka (3,000m). Overnight stay at Mweka Camp.
Day 6 Descend to the park gate. You are transferred back to AMEG LODGE KILIMANJARO for your overnight stay.
Day 7 Breakfast at AMEG LODGE KILIMANJARO. End of tour.
