Marangu route is the most popular route also locally known as the Coca-Cola route. The route takes 5 days to complete and is the only route where climbers stay in huts (on all other routes climbers stay in tents). If you are not accustomed to camping and mountain climbing you might consider Marangu route as the most suitable. For this reason it is one of the busiest. Despite the ‘human traffic’ however, it is an extremely scenic route with breath taking views of Mawenzi. There is fresh running water at all the huts except for Kibo where it will be carried by your porters.

Day 1 You arrive at AMEG LODGE for overnight.
Day 2 Breakfast. Transfer from the Lodge to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate at Marangu. From here you trek through the lush forest to Mandara hut (2,750m) for overnight.
Day 3 Leaving the forest you trek along a good path through open grassy moorlands to reach Horombo Hut (3,700m).
Day 4 Continue ascending past the ‘Last Water’ point to reach the saddle, a dry area between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi (4,700m). Overnight at Kibo Hut.
Day 5 An early start for the stiff walk up steep and heavy scree to reach Gilman’s Point (5,681m). From here continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point of Africa. Afterwards decend to Horombo Hut for overnight.
